Recyling

All member of greenpulse need to submit an article to put in the greenpulse website. As a greenpulse AJK, I also wrote an article during this holiday. Here is my article:

I think all of us know what is recycling. Recycling is the process of turning one products useful parts into a new product. There are 3 types of recycling bin in Malaysia, which are brown, orange and blue colour of recycling bin. But can you remember what can be thrown into these 3 types of recycling bin clearly? Well, glass goes into brown recycling bin. Aluminium and plastic items go into orange recycling bin while paper goes into blue recycling bin. Here are some interesting facts:

1. Aluminium cans can be recycled and ready to use in just 6 weeks.

2. Glass is 100% recyclable and can be used again and again. But, if glass that is thrown away and ends up in landfills will never decompose.

3. It takes 24 trees to make 1 ton of newspaper. Recycled paper produces 73% less air pollution than if it was made from raw materials.

4. Plastic can take up to 500 years to decompose.

I think most of us know the importance of recycling such as recycling helps protect our environment, conserve limited resources, promotes energy efficiency, and others. But, not many people actually having recycling practices in their lives. Some people do not recycle because they think they will be laughed by other people. While some people think that if he/she recycling only but other people do not recycling at all, then he/she think that he/she alone will not change anything or save the environment, so they end up the recycling habits. If all people think like that, I guess our lovely environment cannot be saved anymore. If you do not start it, other people also will be the same. I believe if you have recycling habits, you can influence others to recycle together with you. We may not see the effect when one person recycling only. However, if all of us have recycling habits, we can see the effect in long terms.

During recycling, you may use some kinds of big plastic bags or boxes to put the used items (such as during recycling campaign or recycle at home). Some people may argue that you already wasted many plastic bags and boxes during recycle, so while bother to recycle? You are harming environment already. In my opinion, we can do a thing if it brings more benefits than harm (or you can imagine it through a weight scale). If you do an action that brings more benefits, then you can do it. However, if it brings more harms, then you should stop doing it. In this case, recycling brings more benefits to environment and human, so we should having recycling habits.

Lets us save our environment by recycling! We need to change ourselves and act first instead of waiting for others!
